Bowl Game Predictions
The biggest game of the college football calendar is of course the BCS Championship, when the best two teams battle it out for the opportunity to be known as National Champions. Last year Alabama and Florida had a rematch of the SEC Championship Game, and with the teams once again #1 and #2, there is a small chance that will happen. But seeing as how a Texas appearance in the BCS Championship has been a forgone conclusion all along, don;t expect to see Florida vs Alabama again. Unless Texas looses to Nebraska they will be in the BCS Championship facing the winner of the SEC Championship. It looks like most of the media is picking Tim Tebow and the Gators to repeat as a BCS Championship team, however Florida has not been the juggernaut they were last year. We’ve predicting an Alabama win, which would set up one of the most anticipated games of all time. You can be sure that Alabama vs Texas BCS Championship tickets will be the hottest of the year so if one of them is your team you better act fast. The 2010 Citi BCS Championship is taking place at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA on January 7, 2010 starting at 8 p.m.
Another of the BCS Bowls, the Fedex Orange Bowl is tied to the ACC Championship. Right now the winner of the Clemson Georgia Tech ACC Championship Game will earn the chance to battle undefeated TCU in the 2010 Orange Bowl. It’s always special when your team is in a BCS Bowl, and don’t be surprised if Orange Bowl tickets are the hottest of the season, apart from BCS Championship Game tickets. With winter coming in, football fans will jump at the chance to visit sunny Florida. You can count on a ruckus atmosphere at Dolphin Stadium right around 8p.m. on January 5, 2010.
The Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, as one of the BCS Bowls, always gets a lot of hype surrounding it. Pretty much all the bowl predictions out there are expecting Iowa vs. Boise State in the 2010 Fiesta Bowl. Both these programs are experiencing breakout seasons and you can look for Fiesta Bowl tickets to be among the most popular once the announcement is made official. The Fiesta bowl could end up with Nebraska if the Huskers can upset Texas in the Big 12 Championship game. There is also a chance that the Fiesta Bowl Selection Committee could take Penn State to battle the Boise State Broncos. Either way its going to be a really good game at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on January 4, 2010.
As one of the four BCS Bowls, the AllState Sugar Bowl lends plenty of prestige to the teams selected to participate. It is usually the SEC Champs that takes on an at large berth, however with the winner of the Florida Alabama SEC Championship Game bound for the BCS Championship, the Sugar Bowl can choose who it wants, and usually pick the team that will sell the most Sugar Bowl tickets for that game. They’ll likely take the SEC runner-up and pair them against the Cincinnati Bearcats. If Cincinnati looses to Pittsburgh in the Big East Championship game then look for TCU to get the Sugar Bowl invite. It is also possible that Pittsburgh would be invited. The Sugar Bowl goes down at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, among the finest football stadiums in the land. This will be a very good game so do your best to get out there.
Of course the biggest New year’s Day game is the Rose Bowl, also known as the “Grandaddy of ‘Em All.” This game was settled after the Civil War on Thursday, when Oregon beat Oregon State for the Pac-10 title. With Oregon facing Ohio State in the 2010 Rose Bowl, this is going to be a huge game. They’ve been going bananas in Pasadena as they search for Rose Bowl tickets, and with the hype building as the game nears, the demand is sure to go up. The Rose Bowl matches up the Big 10s best against the Pac-10 representative, unless their champ gets invited to the BCS Championship Game. Held at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, kickoff for the Rose Bowl is at 4:30 p.m. on new Year’s Day. This should be one of the biggest games of the bowl season, so make sure you take a look.
The GMAC Bowl, held at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Alabama takes place on January 6, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. The consensus pick seems to be Central Michigan vs. Notre Dame in the 2010 GMAC Bowl. This game should be a lot of fun, and should the Irish go they could very well have a new coach. Keep and eye out for Notre Dame GMAC Bowl tickets because if they get a new coach there will be a lot of teams looking forward to the game.
With everything football in Texas being ten times bigger, the Valero Alamo Bowl is always a very popular one. Taking place at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, the game matches the Big 10 vs. the Big 12. If the Outback Bowl end up picking Northwestern over Wisconsin, Wisconsin could end up selling Alamo Bowl tickets. But Wisconsin goes to the Outback Bowl, the Alamo would likely pass on Northwestern because they appeared in last year’s game. That would leave either Michigan State or Minnesota, who are both 6-6, to play either Texas Tech or Oklahoma.
The Autozone Liberty Bowl pits the C-USA vs. the SEC in a game that is not as one-sided at you might think. This year it looks pretty certain that Arkansas will get the invite to the Liberty Bowl. Their fans are so sure that Arkansas Liberty Bowl tickets are already being bought. And the organizers aren’t fighting the rumors: “We’ve seen just about every one of their games this year,” said Steve Ehrhart, Executive Director of the Autozone Liberty Bowl of Arkansas football. “If we were to invite Arkansas and match them against East Carolina or Houston, we think we’d have a very competitive and entertaining game.” So there you have it, straight from the horses mouth. Arkansas will play either Houston or East Carolina at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee on January 2, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. Should Houston play Arkansas it would bring back the old Southwest Conference rivalry. This game would also see a battle between two of the best quarterback in the game. Houston’s Case Keenum is ranked first nationally in passing yards per game while Arkansas’ Ryan Mallett is eighth, averaging 285.2 yards with 29 TDs and seven interceptions.
The AT&T Cotton Bowl matchup has already been announced at it is Oklahoma State taking on Ole Miss, the second consecutive year the Rebels will be in the game. This is another fan favorite, and Cotton Bowl tickets seems to be hot no matter who is playing. I guess when there’s a fight that will help address the Big 12 Conference vs SEC rivalry it will always be hot. The game happens at the Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas, Texas on January 2, 2010 at 2 p.m.
Pitting the Big East Conference vs. SEC Conference, PapaJohns.com Bowl tickets seem to be very hot on both sides. Look for South Carolina (7-5) to represent SEC and the winner of the UConn USF game to represent the Big East. Rutgers could also end up in the game, as could Kentucky from the SEC. The PapaJohns.com Bowl goes down at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama on January 2, 2010 with a 2 p.m. kickoff.
The only Bowl Game to take place outside of the US, the International Bowl is always a fun destination. With travelers getting the chance to vacation outside the country, International bowl tickets seem to sell well usually. Last year the UConn football team beat Buffalo. This year it looks like it will be either South Florida or Rutgers that represents the Big east in the International Bowl, however UConn could get a repeat invite. Representing the Mid-American Conference will be either Northern Illinois or Temple. This is a fun game that should be fun for those in attendance. The International Bowl is held in Toronto’s Rogers Centre, normally home of MLB’s Blue Jays. The game is on January 2, 2010 at 12 p.m.
Another of the biggest non-BCS Bowls, the Konica Minolta Gator Bowl is the center of a lot of speculation from pundits all over. Held at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium in Jacksonville, FL, the Gator Bowl matches up a team from the ACC versus either the Big 12, Big East of Notre Dame. Notre Dame is pretty much out, but that’s about all we know for sure. Some are hoping for a WVU vs FSU Gator Bowl, Florida State to play Virginia Tech, however that is a longshot because of some selection rules. However the BCS Bowl selection rules are more of guidelines, and bowl and programs have been known to bend them to get the matchup they want. Pittsburgh could also end up selling Gator Bowl tickets for the New Year’s Day game.
Another of the New Years Day Bowls, the Capital One Bowl is another big consolation prize for those missing out on a BCS Bowl invite. The old Citrus Bowl is as desired a destination as any non-BCS bowl, so expect that Capital One Bowl tickets will be in high demand. In seems like everyone has settled on an LSU Penn State Capital One Bowl, which would see two of the biggest teams in college football go at it. Ole Miss would have gone but they missed out with their loss to Mississippi State so they’ll have to settle for the Cotton Bowl.
The Outback Bowl looks like it has passed on Tennessee to invite Auburn to the big game. The last time an SEC Western team played in the Outback Bowl was in 1997, when Alabama beat Michigan 17-14. With such a storied team, Auburn Outback Bowl tickets will definitely be ahot item. Paired up with Auburn will be a Big 10 team, likely Northwestern or Wisconsin. The Outback Bowl is one of the biggest minor bowls so getting into the game means a lot to football programs. The Outback Bowl takes place at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2010 with an 11 a.m. kickoff.
The bowl game formerly known as the Peach Bowl has all the sudden become one of the most desired bowl game destinations for programs looking for a solid pay day. With that in mind Chick-fil-A Bowl tickets are also gaining attention from interested college football fans. With Tennessee (7-5) missing out on the Outback Bowl, it looks like they could end up at the Chick fil A Bowl as the SEC’s entrant. Tennessee played in what was then the Peach Bowl in 2004 and lost to Clemson. Virginia Tech is likely to get the nod from the ACC. “Anytime we get the opportunity to work with a quality person like Jim Weaver and a Frank Beamer, we will do so,” Chick-fil-A Bowl President Gary Stokan said of Virginia Tech’s athletic director and coach. “I have no doubt whatsoever that Virginia Tech — if they were invited to the Chick-fil-A Bowl — their fans would show up in great number. If Georgia Tech goes on to beat Clemson for ACC title they could end up at the old Peach Bowl. And Georgia also has to be considered to be a possibility to play in their own stadium. The 2009 Chick fil A Bowl goes down at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia on December 31, 7:30 p.m.
The Insight Bowl gets the next choice after the Texas Bowl, and they invite a team from the Big 10 and the Big 12. Taking place at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona, Insight Bowl tickets should be in pretty high demand regardless of the matchup. The Insight Bowl goes down on December 31, 2009 at 6 p.m. Sings point to Missouri vs. Minnesota facing off, with the Iowa State Cyclones being another choice from the Big 12. “There are a lot of scenarios,” Cyclones athletic director Jamie Pollard said. “What we know is that we’re going to a bowl. Where we go, we’ll find out on Sunday.”
The Texas Bowl is held at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas on December 31, at 3:30 p.m. It normally sees the U.S. Naval Academy take on a team from the Big 12 Conference. Navy accepted its Texas Bowl invitation, but who they will play is anyone’s guess, making this one of the toughest bowl game predictions to make. Most signs point tot the Midshipmen taking on either Texas A&M or Iowa State, however Missouri is another possibility. Another wrinkle comes from the Big 12 Championship Game. If Nebraska is able to beat Texas, then both would likely end up with BCS invitations, leaving the Texas Bowl to do some improvising. No matter who is in, football in the Lone Star State is not a tough sell, and Texas Bowl tickets should be able to get plenty of attention.
Oregon State won the Brut Sun Bowl last year, and some are thinking they could get an invite again, especially if they can take Arizona from the Pac 10, since the coaches of both are brothers. The Sun Bowl also has affiliations with the Big East, Big 12 as well as Notre Dame, so this is likely one of the toughest games to predict. Other options include California vs. Texas Tech and Oklahoma vs. California. This game has a ton of interesting matchups so no matter who makes it Sun Bowl tickets should be pretty big. The 2009 Sun Bowl goes down at the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas on New Year’s Eve, December 31, at 2 p.m. Missouri also has an outside shot at a Sun Bowl invitation.
The Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl looks just about certain to invite Air Force to take on C-USA. Most likely its going to be East Carolina in the Armed Forces Bowl, however the Houston Cougars could end up there should they loose to the Pirates this Saturday. Some are saying BYU or Utah could end up being the MWC’s representative, but I think it’s likelier that the Air Force Academy will be the ones selling Armed Forces Bowl tickets come Dec. 31. The Armed Forces Bowl goes down at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas on December 31 at Noon. Last year Houston beat Air Force 34-28.
There seem to be a lof of teams that could end up with an invite to the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl on December 30, 2009, 8 p.m. The Big 12 takes on the Pacific-10 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California. It looks like a USC Nebraska Holiday Bowl matchup is the likeliest, unless the Arizona Wildcats are able to beat USC Saturday. If USC gets the invite then Holiday Bowl tickets will be the ones everyone wants. While Nebraska (9-3) is not favored in its Big 12 Championship Game matchup vs Texas, if they are able to pull ahead in that game look for Oklahoma to get the nod from the Holiday Bowl committee. USC has never played in the Holiday Bowl, however they aren’t a sure thing, as Stanford and Oregon State, both (8-4), could end up with the invite.
The Roady’s Humanitarian Bowl invited a Mountain West Conference team to play a Western Athletic Conference team. Idaho look set to represent the WAC at Bronco Stadium in Boise, Idaho. The MWC looks to send either Northern Illinois or Wyoming and if neither is eligible then look for Bowling Green to get the invite. The Humanitarian Bowl is also rumored to be one of the possible bowls that could end up with Notre Dame. If the Irish are involved there shouldn’t be an issue selling Humanitarian Bowl tickets, especially if Cincinnati’s Brian Kelly is on board to coach the bowl game as some rumors have him doing. The Humanitarian Bowl goes down on December 30, at 4:30 p.m.
Last year the Champs Sports Bowl saw Florida State beat Wisconsin 42-13 in a solid game. Most onlookers think that its going to be Miami vs. Northwestern on display at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando. Miami is always a big draw and if they are selected Sports Bowl tickets will sell well. The Champs Sports Bowl sees the ACC play the Big Ten on December 29, at 8:00 p.m. Should Miami not be the ACC’s representative then it would likely be Clemson that is in the Sports Bowl. Representing the Big Ten will likely be Wisconsin or Northwestern.
The Eaglebank Bowl is supposed to see Army vs. an ACC opponent, however its possible neither one will be able to meet eligibility criteria. If that is the case look for Marshall to play Northern Illinois or Bowling Greene. If Notre Dame decides to accept an invitation the Eaglebank Bowl tickets could be in the Irish’s future. Being played in RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C., Eaglebank bowl is set for December 29, at 4:30 p.m.
Held in Independence Stadium in Shreveport, Louisiana, the Independence Bowl pits the Big 12 against the SEC. This game is always a big one, and you can count on Independence Bowl tickets to be going fast the second the Selection Sunday matchups are announced. The smart money is on Georgia (7-5), taking the filed come Dec. 28. While Georgia will likely represent the SEC, ESPN thinks it will be Auburn that makes it. Either way Texas A&M looks like it will be the Big 12’s representative, with the Iowa State Cyclones in the running as well. Missouri, which played in the Independence Bowl after the 2003 and 2005 seasons, also has a chance to get invited. Kickoff time for the Independence Bowl is at 5 p.m.
Moving right along in our Bowl Game Projections, the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl pits the ACC vs the SEC. Some insiders think that the Music City Bowl committee wants Kentucky (7-5) to play in the Bowl for the third time in four years. South Carolina has also been mentioned to be in the bowl if they can matchup with the ACC’s North Carolina. Other ACC Candidates include Florida State, Miami or the Clemson Tigers. Whoever gets invited, get your Music City Bowl tickets fast because they’ll be going fast. The 2009 Music City Bowl goes down at LP Field in Nashville, Tennessee on December 27, at 8:30 p.m.
The last game being played on the 26th is the Emerald Bowl in AT&T Park, the Emerald City San Francisco, California. This game is always a fun one as at least on of teams involved has local fans from a PAC 10 team, which will battle an ACC team. California and Stanford would be ideal for the Emerald Bowl, since both teams play in the Bay Area. Should one of those teams make it Emerald Bowl tickets will instantly become some of the most sought-after around. There has been some talk of the Emerald Bowl being the last game Florida State’s Bobby Bowden ill play in, with some indication that it will be Boston College that will represent the ACC. Kickoff for the Emerald Bowl is at 8 p.m.
Also being played on December 26, the Meineke Car Care Bowl sees the ACC battle the Big East Conference. A Rutgers vs Miami Car Care Bowl game looks like its the best possibility, which would include some drama for the coach. Rutgers coach Greg Schiano was an assistant coach at Miami. Pitt and Florida State also remain a possibility, while ESPN annalist Mark Schlabach and Bruce Feldman are predicting Boston College vs. West Virginia. If you end up buying Meineke Bowl tickets then you need to be at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina on December 26 at 4:30 p.m.
New newly-named Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, the bowl game formerly known at the Motor City Bowl, acquired the naming rights after GMAC and Ford pulled their funding. This could be a fun game, and Ford Field will have its share of fans that are eager to buy Little Caesars Bowl tickets for the game in Detroit. With a Big Ten Conference team taking on the Mid-American Conference, Ohio vs. Middle Tennessee State seems like a sure thing, with the off-chance that the Bowl could invite Notre Dame should the team decide to accept an invitation. Also keep an eye out for East Carolina taking Middle Tennessee State’s spot. The Little Caesars Bowl is set for the day after Christmas, December 26, at 1:00 p.m.
SMU football has already accepted its invitation to the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl, the programs first bowl bid in 25 years. Mustang alumni will be going all out looking to buy Hawaii Bowl tickets to welcome the team’s return to relevance. While SMU represents C-USA, the WAC will likely send either Fresno State or Nevada as their representative. The Sheraton Hawaii Bowl goes down at Aloha Stadium in, how did you know, Hawaii! The game happens on December 24, at 8 p.m.
Easily the longest-named bowl in an area that seems to be falling in love with long names, the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl welcomes a Mountain West Conference team that will take on the Pac-10. From the MWC, either Utah or BYU will be at Qualcomm Stadium to take on the loset of Arizona vs USC. Should California loose to Washington there could actually be Poinsettia Bowl tickets on sale to see Cal. There will be a lot of excitement for this game, as San Diego loves its football.
Moving along in our football bowl game predictions, the Maaco Las Vegas Bowl goes down at Sam Boyd Stadium in, you guessed it, Las Vegas, Nevada. The Las Vegas Bowl matches up the Pac-10’s 4 or 5 team with the MWC. Even though Oregon State played in the 2003 Las Vegas Bowl, there is still reason to think they will be back. After a lackluster season, there will still be a lot of Cowboys fans looking for Las Vegas Bowl tickets if that is the case. In a long shot, should USC loose to Arizona, AND California looses to Washington, the USC Trojans might end up at Sam Boyd.
The R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl takes place on December 20 with an 8:00 p.m. kickoff. The Louisiana Superdome is a great place to play football, and you know that its going to be rocking with all those New Orleans Bowl ticket holders in attendance. The New Orleans Bowl matches up the Sun Belt Champion vs. a Conference USA representative. Right now it looks pretty certain that it will be Southern Miss vs. Troy in the New Orleans Bowl, however that could change if Houston Loses to East Carolina. That could drop the Cougars all the way to New Orleans. Otherwise Houston will likely play Air Force in the Armed Forces Bowl or Arkansas in the Liberty Bowl.
The second bowl game to take place on December 19 is the St. Petersburg Bowl, which sees the Big East Conference take on Conference USA. The UCF Knights have already accepted the bid to represent C-USA, however the Big East St Petersburg Bowl representative has not been decided on. While Big East fans wait for selection Sunday to buy St Petersburg Bowl tickets, the UCF Knights fans are already buying tickets. By the way the Big East will be the home team, which means that UCF will wear white jerseys during the game. The Big East St Petersburg representative looks to be the loser of UConn vs. South Florida. Some in UCF fans would rather see UConn rather than a repeat of last year’s matchup. Either way, this should be a fun game and Tropicana Field will be going bananas.
The New Mexico Bowl is the first bowl to be played and sees the Mountain West Conference go up against the WAC (Western Athletic Conference). Right now it looks like Wyoming is the favorite to represent the Mountain West, with a perhaps Bowling Green pulled in from the Mid-American is there are not enough MWC teams. Fresno State should represent the WAS, with perhaps the Nevada Wolf Pack getting the nod. Either way New Mexico Bowl tickets should be big sellers. The New Mexico Bowl goes down on December 19, 2009, 4:30 p.m. at University Stadium, Albuquerque, New Mexico.
But while a few bowl game matchups have been announced, the Lions share of the 2009 – 2010 bowl game matchups will have to wait until Selection Sunday. But while we wait, here are the latest bowl game predictions for the 2009 – 2010 Bowl Season. No Matter who your team is, if they are invited to a bowl you just have to go. Each year Bowl Game tickets always seem to be among the most important of the year. So take a look at the following college football bowl game predictions and start your planning for the BCS Bowl season.
The 2010 Cotton Bowl is the only bowl game that has been officially announced. The Mississippi Rebels (Ole Miss) will take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Cotton Bowl, taking place on January 2 in Dallas. This is going to be a very fun game and with two college football programs whose fanbase has never had a problem with traveling Cotton Bowl tickets could end up being one of the biggest of the year. Other definite bowl game selections include Navy in the Texas Bowl, and UCF in the St. Petersburg Bowl. There is also strong indications that Auburn will be in the Outback Bow, Tennessee and Virginia Tech will play in the Chick-fil-A Bowl and that Arkansas will play in the Liberty Bowl.
With Selection Sunday just around the corner, bowl game predictions are all the rage and who will be playing who in what bowl is the talk of towns and cities across the country. Each year loyal supporters eagerly wait for the bowl game matchups to be announces so that they can start buying tickets right away. Sure BCS Championship tickets are going to be the most sought after, but you might be surprised at just how many fans are interested in seeing their team play in a bowl game. Take SMU, who secured its first bowl game berth in nearly 25 years. SMU will play in the Hawaii Bowl in Honolulu Hawaii. The Mustangs were shut down for 2 years by the NCAA and ever since the program has struggled to get back into the upper-echelons of college football. There are a few bowl game selections that have been made official, but most college football fans will have to wait until Sunday for all the Bowl Game Matchups.
