BCS championship game
The BCS Championship game is the culmination of the college football season and sees the #1 and #2 BCS ranked teams go head to head for the chance to be crowned National Champions. It is always an intense game between two of college football’s elite teams. The BCS relies on a combination of polls and computer selection methods to determine relative team rankings, and to narrow the field to two teams to play in the BCS National Championship Game held after the other college bowl games.
The BCS National Championship Game, or BCS title game (however NOT the BCS Bowl), is the final bowl game of the annual Bowl Championship Series and is intended by Series organizers to determine the Division I National Football Championship. The game was initially rotated among the four participating bowl games, the (Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, and Sugar Bowl). However, beginning with the 2006 season, the BCS National Championship Game became a separate event played at the same site as the host bowl a week following New Year’s Day.
The first BCS Game was played at the end of the 2008 season. This was made possible by the Big Ten and the Pac 10 conferences as well as the Rose Bowl joining the already-established “Bowl Alliance,” thus forming the Bowl Championship Series(BCS). Prior to that there was a national championship game, but because the PAC 10 and the Big Ten did not participate, the National Champion was always disputable.
